A day of shooting & filming
A couple of days ago I spent the day filming two yoga tutorials with my friend and aspiring film maker, Alice Denny. I just wanted to review the experience here with you all, as well as share some of the pictures we took, and a couple of still shots from the videos.
We filmed three videos:
A headstand (Sirshasana) workshop
A Digestion Class
How to do basic Sun Salutations
We were really lucky in that it was a beautiful day. Unusually for the UK, the sun was shining all day and it was nice and warm the majority of the time (except when the sun went behind the clouds for a little too long!). This created a beautiful effect for the tutorials. Butterflies kept flying in front of the camera, birds were tweeting in the background, and the bright light made the close-up shots look so much clearer than they would have on a cloudy day.
It was a strange experience filming my first yoga tutorials. It's much, much harder than it looks, and very tiring! It definitely helped me with how I explain instructions for various postures, and how to make my instruction as clear as possible. However, unlike in an actual class, we can cut out and edit any mistakes and excessive "umm"'s that I said, which made it a bit easier! I didn't realise until watching it back through that I say "umm" inbetween sentences way too much, so this is definitely something I need to work on. I also learnt that I need to speak louder, as I have a tendency to speak too quietly sometimes. It's really useful to be able to watch yourself back, so that you can see how you come across to an audience.
Overall, I really enjoyed filming. However, I can safely say that I prefer teaching a group of people much more, as you can interact with them, and adjust them in the posture to ensure they are doing it correctly.
We will be editing the videos when we have our next rainy cloudy day, so we probably won't have to wait too long for that knowing typical British weather.
I will be sharing them with you shortly after that. I'm excited for you guys to watch them and hopefully get some feedback from you! I still have a long way to go before becoming the yoga instructor I want to be, but it's days like this that I feel I'm getting one step closer.
Thank you for reading.
